Abstract

Bioeducation plays an essential role in developing students' understanding of nutrition, health, and the digestive system as a foundation for making informed decisions that support sustainable living. Developing instructional materials that foster critical thinking skills is one strategy to achieve this goal. This study aimed to analyze the effectiveness of an augmented reality
based e-module in improving junior high school students' critical thinking skills on the topic of the digestive system. The study employed a mixed methods approach with an exploratory sequential design, involving qualitative e-module development followed by effectiveness testing using a quasi experimental design. Critical thinking skills were assessed through pre-tests and post-tests
administered to the experimental and control groups, and the data were analyzed using a mean difference test. The findings showed that students who learned using the augmented reality-based e module demonstrated better critical thinking skills than those who used conventional instructional materials. Three-dimensional visualizations and interactive learning activities enable students to
analyze information, connect concepts, and draw more meaningful conclusions. Therefore, the augmented reality-based e-module is recommended as an alternative biology instructional material to strengthen bioeducation and promote the development of students' critical thinking skills.
